The European Union (EU) remains fully committed to supporting Serbia on its path to EU membership but Serbia also needs to expedite key reforms, especially in the areas of rule of law, media freedom and fight against corruption, former Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret said on July 18.

In a written statement carried by the Delegation, Giaufret said that although he was leaving, the European Union remained fully committed to walking side by side with Serbia on its path to membership in the EU.

He pointed out that Serbia's headway toward the EU was still the key common goal and recalled the importance of Serbia's role in shaping the future of the Western Balkans within the European family.

Giaufret was appointed Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia in 2021 and held that office until July 15 this year.
