Brankica Stankovic, editor in chief of TV Insider, has said that Serbia has slipped into a state of anarchy where everyone does whatever they want without any consequences.

”Increasingly frequent attacks on journalists and other media representatives have sounded the alarm, not only for the necessary condemnation, but also for solidarity and presenting clear demands to the competent institutions, seeking from them to answer why they have not been doing their job and who will be held accountable,” Stankovic told the July 22 issue of Belgrade daily Danas.

She stated that “the divisions that have culminated in the last nine months are actually the beginning of the destruction of state and society in Serbia.”

”Every threat to or attack on journalists requires an adequate response from the institutions, and the absence of such response, which is often the case, represents a slap in the face for citizens, because journalists are there to work in the public interest,” Stankovic said.
