EXPO 2027 (BETAPHOTO/MILAN ILIC)
The Get Going for Change Movement has submitted 119,829 signatures requesting from the International Exhibitions Bureau (Bureau International des Expositions - BIE) headquartered in Paris, to cancel the international specialized exhibition EXPO 2027, scheduled to take place in Belgrade.
The movement also submitted an analysis of the corruption and security risks of this project in Serbia, prepared by Slobodan Tomic, associate professor of public management and integrity at the University of York, England.
In a letter to BIE, the movement said that violations of the rule of law and corruptive deals had been going on behind the scenes of this project in Serbia, which, according to the letter, could also trigger security risks and lead to further political destabilization in the society.
The movement further said that insisting on going ahead with this project in Serbia would have negative impacts on EXPO and BIE, which could result in far-reaching damage to future events and global projects, far beyond Serbia’s borders.
Also, the letter stressed that realization of the project was questionable considering the current political situation in Serbia.
