Artillery shells from Bosnia and Herzegovina sold to a Czech company officially supplying the Ukrainian military have received a transit permit from the Serbian Interior Ministry with sign-off from all responsible ministries, BIRN (the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network) reported on July 23.

The report noted that this was happening at a time when Moscow publicly criticized Belgrade over supplying ammunition to Ukraine and the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service issued "two strongly-worded statements" within one month.

"While it publicly cultivates a narrative of military neutrality and close ties with Moscow, the Serbian government is selling ammunition that ends up in the possession of the Ukrainian armed forces via third countries that are officially the end users. After years of denials, President Aleksandar Vucic himself admitted the practice to the Financial Times in an interview in June 2024," the report goes on to say.

BIRN also noted that, in addition to Serbia making weapons and ammunition that find their way to Ukraine, Belgrade granted transit across Serbian territory to artillery munitions intended for companies supplying the Ukrainian military.
