Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric said on July 24 that Serbia demanded the immediate release of deputy director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Igor Popovic from custody, as well as that Belgrade would have a multilayered diplomatic and legal response to his arrest.
"Igor Popovic is in prison as a representative of the state of Serbia at a commemoration for the Serbs and Roma who were killed in the Velika Hoca area by Kosovo Liberation Army terrorists, while his arrest happened over the use of this qualification," Djuric told the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS) adding that Serbia would have a serious and multilayered response.
Asked about the importing of workers from Ghana, Djuric said that the alleged bringing in of 100,000 people from that African country "is a concoction."I am disappointed that in the subtext of that lies a latent racism on the part of some politicians, which was never the characteristic of us Serbs and that someone is trying to ruin our relations with African countries," Djuric said.
