Djuro Macut (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
Prime Minister Djuro Macut has said he is not in favor of Serbia's joining the European Union if the condition for membership is Serbia's recognition of Kosovo's independence, adding that Kosovo is a constitutive part of it.
"No. Especially because there are other examples too, I've mentioned the case of Cyprus. Kosovo and Metohija is a constitutive part of Serbia, according to the Constitution, which we will not give up on. We are for the EU, but matters must be considered in a constructive way," Macut said in an interview with the Aug. 1 issue of the Vecernje Novosti newspaper.
He also said he had not had any negative comments on the clear stance that there would be no sanctions against Russia as long as he was the prime minister.
"That is our position, which is logical, we lead a single state policy, I am completely harmonized with the president of the Republic. I am not a politician by vocation but I completely understand what our priorities are, especially at this time," said Macut.
