Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Macut called on Aug. 14 on all political actors and citizens to lower tensions saying that "only through rationality, patience and mutual respect can we achieve peace and stability."

"The state will, in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Serbia, take all measures to secure peace, public order and the safety of movement for all citizens regardless of their political or other beliefs," Macut said in a statement.

He stressed that members of the Interior Ministry "once again demonstrated a willingness and devotion to protect citizens and ensure public order and peace, as they have been doing with dedication and responsibility for the past nine months." He also said that "decisions that apply to the future of the country, can exclusively be brought by state institutions and organs, but in elections as well, at a time and in a way that is prescribed by law."
