On Sept. 15, President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, who has just commenced a multi-day visit to Japan, wished citizens a happy Day of Serb Unity, Freedom and the National Flag and called for togetherness.

“Today, we proudly celebrate a day that reminds us of what ties us together: unity, freedom, and our flag. Our flag is a symbol of remembrance, tradition and the future we’re building together. May this day inspire us to safeguard togetherness, to be proud of our roots and to instill the values of freedom and unity into the generations to come,” Vucic wrote on Instagram.

The president previously told journalists in Osaka – where his tour began – that he will celebrate the Serb national holiday “in a splendid manner” at the main pavilion of the Osaka Expo 2025.

Vucic also stated he would be meeting with Japanese Emperor Naruhito and added that his “likely most important talk” will be with Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

The Day of Serb Unity, Freedom and the National Flag is a holiday celebrated on Sept. 15 in Serbia and Republika Srpska in memory of the 1918 Battle of Dobro Pole, when the Serbian Army led the breakthrough of the Saloniki Front, resulting the collapse of the Central Powers and the eventual end of the First World War.
