The European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) condemned on Sept. 17 the fact that death threats had been sent to journalist and university professor Dinko Gruhonjic and his family, and demanded that those responsible be prosecuted.

“Journalist Dinko Gruhonjic has received new death threats, which is an indication of a pattern of attacks on independent journalists, incited by slander campaigns by public officials and pro-government tabloids. We call for the prosecuting of those responsible for threats against Gruhonjic, which have been going on since March 2024,” reads the statement of EFJ.

The professor of the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad, Dinko Gruhonjic, recently received a death threat in the form of a letter delivered to his work address at the Faculty, signed “Greetings from Ratko Mladic.” Gruhonjic recently also reported a threat he received in a text message reading “Death to the Gruhonjic family!”

The Mapping Media Freedom mechanism, run by the European Center for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) and part of the Media Freedom Rapid Response (MFRR), a European mechanism that monitors and responds to violations of press and media freedom in EU member states and candidate countries, also condemned the fact that threats had been sent to Gruhonjic and his family.
