Student's protest BETAPHOTO/Uros Matovic
Early on Oct. 30, several thousand university students, highschoolers and other members of the general public began a 70-kilometer march to Novi Sad, where they will attend the Nov. 1 memorial rally for the 16 people killed in last year’s railway station collapse.
According to the university students organizing the march, about 4,000 of their fellow students and highschoolers registered for the journey, but a good deal of other people joined as well.
The organizers told BETA, whose reporter is marching with them, that they cannot estimate the total number of people participating but that they are very happy with how many responded to their invitation
The lead students added that they have secured many monitors to oversee the march and do not expect any trouble along the way.
Heading the procession is a traffic police vehicle with flashing lights.
The marchers plan to cover the first half of the distance during the day, passing through Zemun, Batajnica, Nova Pazova and Stara Pazova, and arriving in the evening in Indjija, where they plan to spend the night.
