Felix Tshisekedi, president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, said in Belgrade on Nov. 28 that there were numerous opportunities for bilateral cooperation between the Congo and countries interested in striking up partnerships, especially in mining, farming and environmental protection.

Tshisekedi said this after a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, where the two officials examined key areas of mutual interest, including defense, security, education, health care and infrastructure. "We discussed these topics with great interest. President Vucic expressed the wish for Serbia to become even closer to our country and share experiences," he said.

He also thanked him for respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which was under attack by Rwanda, and said that such support was comforting. Earlier on, ministers from both sides exchanged bilateral documents on cooperation in internal and foreign affairs, and sports.

Vucic said relations between Serbia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo were relations of sincere friendship and characterized by "exceptional mutual respect." Vucic went on to say that he and Tshisekedi had discussed concrete cooperation in multiple areas, from agriculture, military and technical cooperation, to student exchange, and that they had discussed the global geopolitical situation.
