While inclement weather, including heavy snowfall, subzero temperatures and ice rain, caused numerous municipalities across Serbia to declare a state of emergency over the past week, disaster protocols remain active in 11 municipalities, with over 6,000 households still without power, the RTS public broadcaster reported on Jan. 12.

Valjevo, Loznica, Osecina, Krupanj, Mali Zvornik, Vladimirci, Sjenica, Majdanpek and parts of Prijepolje, Lucani and Ivanjica are all still operating in a state of emergency.

Milorad Spasojevic of the government’s Emergency Management Department told RTS that interruptions in the power grid are the greatest problem.

“About 6,450 users are without electricity. The situation is the worst in the districts of Zlatibor, Kolubara, Morava and Macva,” Spasojevic stated.
