European Democrats
The European Democratic Party has said in a statement that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic was "inventing external enemies" to divert attention from economic problems, following the example of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban who turns fear into politics.
"Aleksandar Vucic is once again choosing paranoia over responsibility, inventing external enemies to divert attention from his government's economic failures. After Croatia, Albania and Kosovo strengthened their defense cooperation, he spoke of possible 'attacks' by the three countries. Following the playbook of his friend Viktor Orban, who claims Ukraine threatens Hungary, Vucic turns fear into politics," the European Democrats said in a post on the X social media network.
In an appearance on the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation's program on March 12, Vucic levelled accusations that a military alliance of Croatia, Albania and Kosovo was aimed against Serbia and that those three countries planned to attack Serbia, and were "just waiting for the right time." "Europe needs de-escalation, truth and dialogue in the Western Balkans," the European Democrats stressed in the statement, which was accompanied by an image of Vucic and Orban captioned, "Strongmen need imaginary wars."
