Minister for European Integration Nemanja Starovic stated on March 19 that Serbia’s European path had not been blocked due to the recently adopted set of judicial laws, known as Mrdic laws.

“Work is ongoing on so many things that we cannot say that one problem or issue had led to some delays. There are no delays,” Starovic said in an interview to the RTS public broadcaster. He went on to say that the adopted judicial laws have clearly been criticized, both regarding the procedure of their adoption and their content.

Starovic emphasized that the operation of the Justice Ministry also showed that it was impermissible for important prosecutor offices in Serbia to remain understaffed. He added that the Serbian government would implement the recommendations that the Venice Commission would issue regarding the laws.

As for Serbia’s European path, Starovic said that he expected decisive progress to take place in the forthcoming months, but that this also required the simultaneous fulfillment of certain technical conditions and the necessary consensus of the EU members.
