Vjosa Osmani (Beta/ARMENIJA ZAJMI BESEVIC)
Outgoing Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani handed on April 4 her presidential duties to Kosovo Assembly Speaker Albulena Haxhiu.
At the handover ceremony at the Kosovo Presidency, Osmani said she was leaving exceptional work behind her and that she was happy that a woman was taking up the mantle until a new president was elected.
"It has always been one of my greatest desires to leave a woman behind in my place whenever I leave this office. This wish has come to pass today and I sincerely hope that you too will, as the people say, step off and leave a woman in this office behind you. Fully trusting that women always show special care toward institutions and every citizen of the Republic," Osmani said.
She wished Haxhiu every success in the time she spends as acting president of Kosovo. Osmani voiced the wish for the Assembly to elect a new president as soon as possible. Haxhiu said that as acting president, she would follow the Constitution and law, and stressed that she understood the responsibilities and constitutional obligations she was undertaking.
