Media, journalists (BETAPHOTO/NEVENA ZARIC)
The month of March in Serbia saw a total of 30 threatening incidents against journalists, the Independent Journalists’ Association of Serbia (IJAS) announced on its website on April 8.
Of these incidents, 20 constituted actual physical assault and five were death threats and threats to physical wellbeing. In addition, two threats to the media and one assault on the media and media organizations occurred.
“Particularly concerning were the physical attacks on journalists during the recent [regular] local elections in ten municipalities. The press was again the target of serious attacks and obstruction by members of the police, while reporting on a public event and protests,” the IJAS stressed.
