Djuro Macut (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV)
Political analyst Djordje Vukadinovic told the April 14 edition of the Danas daily that none of the Serbian cabinet ministers – led by Prime Minister Djuro Macut – stand out in ability or presence but are all rather ‘extra staff’ tasked with developing and reinforcing the personality cult of President Aleksandar Vucic.
Vukadinovic, who is also editor-in-chief of the Nova Srpska Politicka Misao (New Serbian Political Thought) online periodical, explained that all governments formed over the past several years have been “nothing but bodies and instruments aiding and serving Vucic’s unlimited power.”
“Anyone potentially able to stand out either through ambition or ability was preventatively discarded by Vucic or left of their own accord,” Vukadinovic stated.
According to him, the only one among the Cabinet who has drawn attention – of the negative variety – during his year-long engagement is Information Minister Boris Bratina.
“His troublesome statements and [public] appearances are so extreme and jarring that they even beg the questions whether he was merely a bad choice or whether he has perhaps been tasked to say the things he says and thereby deflect attention from more important matters and provide [President Vucic] with the opportunity to be shocked by and to disavow those statements,” said Vukadinovic.
April 16 will mark one year since the current Serbian cabinet was formed by PM Macut.
