The Serbian Armed Forces are ready for the reintroduction of mandatory military service and conscription should start as of September, while the first conscripts are to be received in March, Minister of Defense Bratislav Gasic said on April 24."We are ready.
Of course, when the competent institution assesses that we can enter into the process, first through the adoption of a law in parliament and then with the first conscripts," Gasic told public service broadcaster RTS.
In his words, whether the reintroduction of compulsory military service will be launched as of March 1 next year depends on the security and sociopolitical situation in the country and the world.
"Not only in our nearest surroundings, but also around the world, regular military service is returning because it has proved to be a necessity," said Gasic, adding that no state could fill the capacity of its professional army
.He also said that women would be able to serve in the army voluntarily and that separate facilities were being prepared for them.
