Nemanja Starovic (BETAPHOTO/MILAN ILIC)
Serbian European Union Integration Minister Nemanja Starovic said on May 2 that the Venice Commission's recommendations on a set of recently adopted judicial laws, known as "Mrdic's Laws" after their sponsor, would be implemented fully and that this would be discussed at a parliament session by the end of the month.
"The European Commission expects us to fully apply the recommendations of the Venice Commission related to the set of judicial laws. Our colleagues from the EC are knocking on an open door. We agreed to do so even before the Venice Commission's expert opinion arrived on April 24, and we will follow all of the recommendations to the letter whatever they are," Starovic told the RTS public service broadcaster.
He went on to say, "They have arrived. We are working hard on them. A working group has been formed and all of the Venice Commission's recommendations will be applied fully in May," adding that this was "very efficient and with a very short turnaround." He also said that May 4 would mark the beginning of a public discussion on a set of electoral laws to be adopted to implement the recommendations of the observer mission from the OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, and that he expected the amendments to electoral legislation to be delivered before MPs by the end of May and adopted soon after.
