Foreign Minister Marko Djuric Talks Strengthening Cooperation with Canadian Officials

Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric met in Ottawa on May 25 with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand and other officials on advancing bilateral cooperation, strengthening political dialog and other questions of mutual interest.

A statement released by the Serbian Foreign Ministry quoted Djuric as saying that Serbia is committed to further strengthening relations with Canada, stressing that it is a pleasure to be realizing the visit to Canada on the 85th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, as well as that this is the first visit by a Serbian foreign minister of Canada in the past 10 years and invited Anand to visit Serbia.

Djuric also hailed the re-establishment of direct flights between Belgrade and Toronto after 34 years, saying that this will significantly contribute to the better connectivity of citizens and business communities, as well as the additional development of economic cooperation between the two countries.

Speaking on economic relations, Djuric pointed to insufficiently tapped potentials in the areas of the economy and investments and voiced his conviction that a Serbia-Canada business forum in Toronto on May 26 will provide an incentive to cooperation between businesses and contribute to the dynamic development of economic ties.

The statement added that the two officials also discussed Serbia's foreign policy priorities, the situation in the region, European integrations, as well as current international issues. Djuric also talked about preparations for the Specialized Expo 2027 exhibition in Belgrade, saying that he hopes that Canada will participate in this international event.

Djuric previously met in Ottawa with Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada Francis Scarpaleggia and the Serbia-Canada friendship group in parliament on strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
