European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said on June 6 that democratic and inclusive elections in Kosovo have created an opportunity to “end a political blockade that has lasted for more than a year.”

In a post on X, she called on political leaders to act responsibly and constructively in order to ensure the formation of new institutions as soon as possible. “With its democratic and inclusive elections, Kosovo has opened the way to leave behind the political blockade that’s more than a year long. Political leaders should now engage constructively to ensure the formation of a government as soon as possible,” Kallas said.

The EU official also stressed the importance of continuing the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, saying that progress in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, as well as the normalization of relations with Serbia, remain essential for Kosovo’s progress on its path toward European integration.
