After the commander of the Belgrade Police Intervention Unit, the leader of the intervention team and two more heads of the unit were arrested on June 10, the unit's deputy commander for whom a search had been under way was also arrested on June 11, public service broadcaster RTS reported.

According to RTS, the deputy commander was also arrested on suspicion that he and his colleagues had prevented the prosecution of Sasa "Boske" Vukovic for starting to shoot after a verbal fight with a member of a rival criminal group at Belgrade's Steak and Wine Bar, in the presence of numerous guests on Nov. 5 last year.

The restaurant manager was also arrested, while Vukovic is in custody on suspicion that he shot dead Aleksandar Nesovic on May 12 this year and then - with several other people - hid his body, which was subsequently found in a barrel buried near Lake Jarkovac in Vojvodina.

Belgrade Police Department Director Veselin Milic is also among the arrested over that incident.
