European Movement in Serbia (BETAPHOTO/MILOS MISKOV/MO)
The European Movement in Serbia said in a press release on June 19 that it has agreed to join forces with pro-European parties and movements within a Platform for a European Serbia.
The parties in question are the Serbia Center, led by Zdravo Ponos, Pavle Grbovic's Free Citizens Movement, the Freedom and Justice Party led by Dragan Djilas and Goran Jesic's Solidarity movement. Given earlier good cooperation in coordinating activities toward the European Union, the parties affirmed a clear pro-European political alternative to the current government and saying that the goal was to rally all pro-European and democratic parties in Serbia, the European Movement in Serbia said.
The parties agreed to invite other entities to cooperate based on clearly defined criteria and principles, political consistency and their readiness to act together internally and in relation to EU institutions and member states.
The platform is open to political and social actors who clearly, consistently and unambiguously share a programmatic and political commitment to Serbia's full membership in the EU, respect for European values, the rule of law, the fight against corruption, democratic institutions, a free press and fundamental civic rights and reject anti-EU rhetoric and accept EU policy and standards, including the criteria for membership. They must also be ready to establish responsible and fact-based communication with the Serbian people and EU institutions and its partners, the statement said.
