Djuric Hails Joining Artemis Accords as Important Step for Serbia

Foreign Minister Marko Djuric signed the Artemis Accords at NASA Headquarters in Washington, whereby Serbia has joined the space program, saying that the move represents “an important step for a country building its future on knowledge, innovation and international cooperation,” the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on July 18.

The day before Djuric said that the agreement places Serbia in the circle of countries committed to the transparent, responsible and peaceful exploration of space, and thanked the United States and NASA for the partnership.

The minister said Serbia’s accession to the Artemis Accords confirms its commitment to international law, scientific progress and the joint action of countries in space exploration. He stressed that the greatest scientific achievements were made when knowledge and resources were pooled, rather than when countries acted individually.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs Wesley Brooks, who attended the signing, said Serbia’s accession marked a significant moment in relations between the two countries, the Ministry said in the release. Brooks underlined that space cooperation brought countries together through shared goals, innovation and the responsible use of space. He added that, by taking this step, Serbia is building on the legacy of Serbian scientists who have contributed to the U.S. space program and is becoming part of the broader international community working on future exploration.
