Serbia’s Blockading University Students have announced they will stage a large protest rally in Valjevo on Aug. 14, to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the riots and police brutality against civilians that took place in that city.

The title of the rally, ‘A Year Without Justice – Valjevo Remembers,’ references the fact that no one has yet been held accountable for the events that unfolded on Aug. 14, 2025.

On Aug. 12, Interior Minister Ivica Dacic announced that the rally the protesting university students have called has not been registered with the authorities and asked that public order and peace be upheld.

“This means that anyone can organize whatever they want, they can stage whatever performances they like, but [must] not attack the police, anyone [else] or anyone’s property,” Dacic told Pink TV.

Last year’s rally was marked by scenes of police brutality, with one particularly gruesome video documenting officers in full riot gear kicking and raining baton blows on a young man lying motionless on the pavement.
