Croatian President Zoran Milanovic decided on Jan. 22 not to attend a ceremony to mark the 28th anniversary of a military and police operation called Maslenica, as persons wearing Ustasha insignia and using the Ustasha salute were among the attendants, a press release in the Croatian capital says.
The Croatian president's press office reported that Milanovic had come to Zadar to attend the ceremony, but after seeing said persons among the other attendants, he called the Croatian prime minister, Andrej Plenkovic, to warn him that "this is unacceptable."
Following the orders of President Milanovic, who is also the supreme commander of the Croatian military, the army chief-of-staff, Robert Hranj, and all military commanders, left the ceremony after the first part of the programme.
