Foreign Minister: Serbia’s Interest Is Preservation of Good Neighborly Ties and Peace in the Region

Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic has said that Serbia’s foreign policy positions have being adjusted to new circumstance on the international scene, but that the priorities have remained unchanged for a long time now.

“Serbia’s first and most important interest is the preservation of good neighborly relations and stability and peace in the region and in that light finding a peaceful and just solution for the issue of Kosovo and Metohija,” Selakovic told the Jan. 26 issue of Belgrade daily Politika.

He said that “the lasting interest is a full-fledged membership in the EU, as it is a type of the society Serbia has been pursuing.”

“As regards bilateral relations, our goal is to strengthen ties with the traditional friends, Russia and China,” Selakovic said, adding that the most important tasks of Serbia’s foreign policy included the improvement of the status and the protection of rights and identity of the Serbs in the region, as well as the provision of various forms of support to the Serbs in the Diaspora.
