Two protocols paving the way for establishing and launching a free labor market in Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia were signed in Skopje on Jan. 22, under the Open Balkan initiative.
The documents signed are the Protocol on interconnecting templates for the electronic identification of Western Balkan citizens and the Protocol on carrying out the Agreement on the conditions for free access to the labor market in the Western Balkans
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said the protocols would make it possible for a completely free labor market in the countries of the Open Balkan initiative to open on March 1.
"That is big and important news for us and I think it'll contribute greatly to creating a better business environment for foreign and domestic companies and overcoming labor shortage problems," Vucic told reporters after a Western Balkans - EU conference in Skopje.
According to him, this would entail creating a workforce market of not just 6.7 million inhabitants (Serbia), but, together with Albania and North Macedonia, some 11 million.
