On Jan. 28, the parliament of North Macedonia elected an interim government to carry out an up-coming election, with Talat Xhaferi of the Albanian DUI party as prime minister.

The votes were 65 in favor and three against, while the MPs from the largest opposition party VMRO DPMNE, which has two ministers and three deputy ministers, abstained from voting. The parliament has 120 seats.

After the ceremonious statements of the interim government's ministers, Prime Minister Xhaferi said that "I can once again affirm that I undertake the task entrusted to me by the citizens through their representatives with awe, a clean conscience and full responsibility." "I remain consistent that the work of the government will be transparent, responsible, especially before the citizens and their representatives, in the interest of the good of the citizens and progress of the state," Xhaferi said.

In North Macedonia, a caretaker government is created 100 days ahead of a parliamentary vote. The largest opposition party gets two ministerial seats -- internal affairs and labor and welfare, and three deputy ministers for finance, agriculture, information society and administration. Parliamentary elections in North Macedonia have been scheduled for May 8, 2024, alongside the presidential runoff. Presidential elections are scheduled for Wednesday, April 24.
