The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina said in a press release on Dec. 26 that Nenad Nesic, Bosnian minister of security and Milan Dakic, director of the Republika Srpska Roads public utility, had been arrested on suspicion of corruption.

"In the course of an investigation being conducted by the Prosecutor's Office of [Bosnia] in coordination with the Organized Crime Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska in a case involving criminal offenses of corruption, Nenad Nesic, minister of security in the Council of Ministers of [Bosnia], Milan Dakic, director of Republika Srpska Roads, Mladen Lucic, and four other individuals were arrested on orders from the prosecutor," the press release read.

Dakic and Nesic, who headed the Republika Srpska Roads company from 2016 to 2020, are suspected of having committed the crimes of "conspiracy to commit the criminal acts" of money laundering, abuse of office or authority and accepting bribes while they were managers of the public utility or while doing business with it.

Media outlets in Bosnia reported earlier that Nesic was arrested over a controversial procurement of road salt from Egypt in 2017, when he was director of Republika Srpska Roads. His close associate Mladen Lucic was also arrested. Lucic owns the Legend company of Istocna Ilidza, which was the importer of the salt from Egypt and the reseller to road companies in Republika Srpska at prices significantly higher than the purchase price.
