Custody Extended for 10 Arrested over Novi Sad Tragedy

The Higher Court in Novi Sad has ruled that the persons arrested in the case of the collapse of the concrete canopy at the city’s Railway Station were to be kept on remand for another 30 days.

The suspects to remain in custody are Nebojsa Surlan, Slobodan Naumovic, Ljiljana Milic Markovic, Marina Gavrilovic, Dejan Todorovic, Milan Jelkic, Zorica Slavkovic Marjanovic, Dusan Jankovic, Milan Spremic and Jasna Stojiljkovic Milic, the Court announced on Jan. 29.

It was added in the announcement that the parties and defenders have the right to appeal before the Appellate Court in Novi Sad. Two other suspects are under house arrest, one of whom is the former acting general director of the Infrastructura Zeleznice Srbije company, Jelena Tanaskovic. The former minister for construction, Goran Vesic, is also awaiting trial but has been released.

15 people died and two suffered life-altering injuries in the collapse of the concrete canopy at the city’s Railway Station on Nov. 1, 2024.
