Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said in Zagreb on Dec. 3 that the current European Commission (EC), unlike the previous ones, had true political will for EU enlargement.
“The European Commission headed by Ursula von der Leyen has the political will for EU enlargement, which are the goals of Ukraine and Moldova, as well as of the Western Balkan countries, among which Montenegro is leading in the process,” Plenkovic stated in Zagreb, reiterating that Croatia would continue to advocate EU enlargement with countries of South East Europe, especially Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He assessed that, if the candidate countries are technically ready, some could have the political decision even before 2030. “Budgetary implications and those pertaining to decision-making are at the core of future enlargement,” Plenkovic stated at the annual “Economist Impacta” summit, titled “Unity, Stability and Innovation in Transformative Europe,” the Croatian government announced on the X network.
As Croatia’s priorities in future development, the prime minister cited demographic revitalization and housing, investing in education, green and digital transition, and investing record-breaking funds in defense.
