The situation caused by the coronavirus in Bosnia and Herzegovina has had an adverse effect on numerous economic branches but no so for cigarettes and other tobacco products, which, in fact, saw an increase in sales, the Nezavisne Novine reports.

In March this year, the Bosnian Department for Indirect Taxation released excise stamps for cigarettes and tobacco worth KM134.7m, as opposed to KM92.2m year-on-year.

It is difficult to say what caused the increased demand for cigarettes, but it is believed that smokers are stockpiling cigarettes.
