Barry Callebaut Starts Construction of Chocolate Factory in Novi Sad

Switzerland's Barry Callebaut company began in Novi Sad on March 5 the construction of a chocolate factory in which it will invest EUR50 million over a five-year period and employ 100 people.

The company  received EUR12m in aid from the state for the investment. Construction will take around 12 months and a Chocolate Academy will also be built in the same spot as well as a 2,000 square-meter development center.

The factory will mostly export its products and expects to make EUR150 million a year from exports. The owners expects it to be come a hub for Serbian candy producers and craftsmen from Serbia. The Novi Sad factory will serve as a regional center from where the Swiss company will supply chocolate to south eastern European markets.

The cornerstone laying ceremony was attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, provincial administration chief Igor Mirovic, Novi Sad Mayor Milos Vucevic, Vojvodina Assembly Speaker Istvan Pastor and representatives of Barry Callebaut the worlds foremost chocolate maker.
