A new Chinese high-speed electric train, "Soko," designed and manufactured by CRRC Changchun to fit railway standards in Serbia and Hungary, was presented in Belgrade, on June 7.
During the presentation, which was attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, the company unveiled the 103-meters-long train with a capacity to seat 250 passengers, which will run between Belgrade and Subotica at a speed of up to 200 kilometers per hour.
"We have ordered five electric trains from China. The last one is expected to arrive in December 2025. Unlike the previous train, this one offers first and second-class seats," Vucic said, adding that the travel time from Belgrade to Subotica would be one hour and 10 minutes.
The president said he hoped that China would build a train manufacturing plant soon, and that Chinese representatives had already been offered several locations - Nis, Aleksinac, Cuprija and Kraljevo. Vucic said "I expect the rail line to Subotica to be completed by the end of 2024," thanking the Chinese partners for meeting their deadlines and working in three shifts.
