Austrian Post on July 21 said it is acquiring 100 percent of the Serbian courier service D Express, which provides deliveries across Serbia. The acquisition has also been confirmed by the Serbian company.
The transaction, according to a release on Austrian Post’s website, aims to combine the strengths of D Express and its wholly subsidiary City Express within a single company, creating one of leading private parcel logistics providers in Serbia.
Austrian Post will take over staff, customer contracts and the infrastructure, including a logistics center in Belgrade, 27 delivery depots, 45 pickup and drop-off shops, and more than 300 packstations across Serbia.
The transaction is subject to all regulatory approvals, and its closing is expected late this year. Walter Oblin, CEO of Austrian Post, said that the acquisition of D Express “is an important step for us in further driving forward the internationalization of our parcel business and sustainably strengthening our position in South-Eastern Europe,” according to the release. Last year, D Express posted a turnover of around EUR36 million.
