United Group on Nov. 17 accused the Serbian authorities of abusing institutions through the unfounded search of premises of the D Express courier service, with the aim of blaming the company for the strike of employees at state postal service Posta Srbije.
The Serbian government decided to use the Criminal Police Directorate's Crime Suppression Service, which carried out an unfounded urgent raid of D Express, a courier service owned by United Group, the company has said in a news release.
"This is so far the most horrific example of abuse of institutions the Serbian authorities have opted for, in an apparent desire to blame anyone for the growing dissatisfaction, in order to avoid their own responsibility for the disastrous state our society is in," said United Group.
The company dismissed claims by certain media outlets that D Express was behind the postal workers' strike, saying that the regime was "deliberately releasing disinformation and trying to hide the truth from citizens" about the postal workers' strike, "seeking the culprit in a rival company."
Lawyer Zdenko Tomanovic told N1 TV that the entry of members of the Criminal Police Directorate and the Tax Police into the D Express office was not in line with the law, "because they came after working hours, spent almost seven hours at the company and did not leave a single document."
