The recent citizens’ vote on amendments to the Serbian Constitution in the part referring to the election of judges and prosecutors was marked by the referendum’s success, i.e. the victory of the “yes” option, an extremely low turnout, and the victory of the “no” option in the country’s three biggest cities – Belgrade, Novi Sad and Nis. The authorities and the opposition have different interpretations of the results of the referendum, which many saw as an overture to the April 3 presidential, parliamentary and Belgrade Assembly elections. Although the results may indicate certain phenomena, they certainly cannot be “copied” to the upcoming elections and no firm conclusions in that regard can be made.
