The Banjska case turned the tables on the relationships that the official Belgrade and Pristina had with the leading member states of the EU and NATO. In the months preceding the incident, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti began losing his good standing with the international community, while KFOR distanced itself from his willful decisions and Kosovo police aggressive actions. Foreign observers have linked Pristina’s overall lack of goodwill to negotiate and make concrete steps forward in the process with Kurti’s policies. The moment that the incident in Banjska was made public, however, Serbia all but lost the solid footing it had enjoyed up till then.
