Just before calling a regular general election (for April 26), Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic visited the U.S., with Kosovo being the main topic of his meetings with U.S. officials.
That indirectly links the results of the election to the solving of the Kosovo crisis, as it is clear that Washington insists on the demand that Belgrade do everything it can to normalize relations with Pristina. The U.S. is also putting strong pressure on the Kosovo authorities to lift the tariffs on imports from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and thereby open the way for the resumption of negotiations.
