The Government of Serbia passed a decree on July 16 whereby the Jadar project, i.e. the exploitation and processing of the jadarite mineral, was brought back to life. The decision was made five days after the Constitutional Court of Serbia abolished the Cabinet’s earlier decision to suspend Rio Tinto’s project and three days ahead of an expected visit to Belgrade by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and a vice-president of the European Commission, Maros Sefcovic. Reactions by parties and movements to these actions of Aleksandar Vucic’s regime suggest that chances are slim that a broad opposition front against the Jadar project will be formed.
