Protest

The campaign for the general and local elections in Serbia, scheduled for June 21, is picking up speed, but without the likelihood that the ruling bloc and the opposition will reach any kind of agreement in a short time. The leading opposition parties gathered in the Alliance for Serbia are sticking to their decision to boycott the elections and are calling for their postponement and for access to the mainstream media, which the authorities keep refusing, claiming that electoral deadlines must be observed and that the media in Serbia are free. There is no doubt that the ruling bloc, spearheaded by the Serbian Progressive Party, will win the elections, meaning that no change in approach and basic political direction should be expected. In such circumstances, tensions will most certainly escalate and continue even after the elections and the formation of a new government.
