A surge in the number of coronavirus cases and deaths in Novi Pazar, Sjenica and Tutin opened a number of very serious issues for local and central government institutions, fully unveiling the grave situation in this underdeveloped region of Serbia and shaking the position of three Bosniak politicians fighting for years over who is going to be the leader of the Bosniak minority in the country. For weeks prior to the June 21 general election, the local Radio Sto Plus station and some independent media outlets had been reporting on an increase in the number of patients with Covid-19 symptoms, but the authorities didn’t pay too much attention to such reports.
