Belgrade city assembly delegates elected on June 20 Serbian Progressive Party candidate Aleksandar Sapic as mayor. In addition to the likelihood of his term having an early expiration date, i.e. the likelihood of early elections in the city being held in less than a year, Sapic’s position is also made more difficult for three reasons: the first, the tight ruling majority and the broad spectrum of opposition parties represented in the Assembly, the second, a lack of unity in the Serbian Progressive Party in terms of his election, and, finally, a loss of the political weight that he had when he had his own party.
