Serbia’s ruling bloc and the opposition parties that have announced a boycott of the elections planned for next spring remain firmly entrenched in their positions, without clear indication that they might move toward a compromise anytime soon. The authorities maintain a tough attitude toward all who criticize them, openly abusing institutions and disrupting the rule of law, while the opposition refuses to take part in the work of the parliament and in elections under such conditions. Brussels and Washington are still asking that the boycott idea be abandoned, while Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic hopes their pressure will yield results.
