Israeli President Reuven Rivlin has thanked Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic for Serbia’s intention to open a diplomatic mission in Jerusalem, underlining that it is yet another sign of the deep relations existing between the two countries, the Times of Israel newspaper reported on March 4.
“I want to thank our dear friend Aleksandar Vucic for telling during the AIPAC2020 conference that Serbia will soon open an official state office in Jerusalem, our capital. Another sign of the strong and deep relations between our countries and peoples,” Rivlin wrote on Twitter in English, adding at the end of his message, “Thank you, Mr. President!” in the Serbian Cyrillic script.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz also congratulated the Serbian leader for his announcement that a Serbian office in Jerusalem will open soon, the paper further reported.
Israeli Ambassador to Serbia Alona Fisher Kamm has said that various countries are following the example of the U.S., which on May 14, 2018 opened an embassy in Jerusalem.
“We expected our good friends, such as Serbia, to join these countries. President Vucic’s statement is positive and a significant step forward in our bilateral relations,” Fisher Kamm added.
