Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic established on March 5 a team of experts for negotiations with the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral and Serbian Orthodox Church dioceses on a law on religious freedom and invited Metropolitan bishop Amfilohije to talks on the expert level.
"We understand that an expert team from the Metropolitanate and Serbian Orthodox Church dioceses, which you created, agrees to hold our first meeting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11 at the Vila Gorica in Podgorica, which we officially confirm," the prime minister said in a letter to Amfilohije.
The first meeting between the Montenegrin government and Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro was held on Feb. 14 and produced no result.
Representatives of the Montenegrin government and Serbian Orthodox Church released statements saying that agreement had been reached to continue talks on the expert level.
Meanwhile the Church's street marches on Thursdays and Sundays, which attract tens of thousands of faithful, are still being held.
