The Unity Union
Sloga Labor Union on April 7 backed the striking employees of cable and harnessing manufacturer Yura by demanding a paid leave for them until the end of the coronavirus pandemic, claiming no adequate conditions were in place to continue operations in the South Korean company.
In the morning on April 7, some 150 Yura employees refused to enter the premises over rumors that a number of their coworkers had been infected with COVID-19, while another 200 had been in isolation.
The workers on strike said they would not to show up at work over the next two weeks, unless addressed by a relevant authority. “In the greed of making money, company Yura has joined a fifth column in this biological war against coronavirus, which is why it is very questionable whose interests are being defended here by allowing them to treat Serbian workers as they please,” Sloga Labor Union said.
They demanded an immediate intervention from President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister Ana Brnabic “to prevent he operation which is at odds with the current epidemiological situation, or would otherwise be held accountable for potential infections of the workers or their family members.”
The labor union recalled that on April 6, Yura called on its workforce to continue daily activities despite one confirmed COVID-19 case and 74 employees placed in self-isolation in the past two days.
