Serbian Ambassador to the U.S. Djerdj Matkovic said on April 13 that there were another 670-odd Serbian citizens in the U.S. who wanted to return to their home country, including a number of workers on cruise ships, as the companies have suspended voyages amid the pandemic.
Matkovic told Pink TV that workers and students that have not yet been transported back to Serbia were among those desirous of returning.
According to him, lists of Serbian citizens who want to return to Serbia are being compiled in cooperation with consulates in Chicago and New York.
"The transfer of 236 citizens was organized very successfully last week via an Air Serbia flight. They were mostly students. Logistically, it was a difficult undertaking, as America is a big country and it isn't easy to ensure that they're all at the place where the plane is waiting at the same time," Matkovic said.
He also said embassy workers were mostly working from home.
