Epidemiologist Predrag Kon on April 21 said that it seemed that the coronavirus had been losing its infectivity, but stressed that precautions should be taken for “not to get surprised by something, some error,” which was why all people going back to work should obey the prescribed measures.

Speaking to public broadcaster RTS about potential threats in the seventh week of coronavirus outbreak, Kon said that the virus could find its way again to “some environments, like health or social facilities, while other facilities have been shut down, so no threats should be expected elsewhere.”

As regards lifting the state of emergency, Kon said that some holidays were ahead during which mass gatherings were common, therefore it was realistic to expect the state of emergency to be fully lifted after the holidays.

He stressed that “the epidemic itself will be ongoing and special measures remain effective during an epidemic such as the ban on mass gatherings, schools are shut down, and other measures, and the situation will be reviewed.”

“It will all be gradual, there should be no fear of rapidly going back to normal life, which is already present. We have to return to normal and it will be somewhat different, but there will be a transitional period,” Kon specified.
